Hi, I’m Amy, the teacher behind Teaching in Blue Jeans, and I’m so glad you’re here.
If you’ve ever had a lesson fall flat or heard a room full of groans when it’s time to practice a skill, you’re not alone. I’ve always believed those moments are an invitation to try something different.
I may have started my adult life as an attorney, but I’ve spent the last two decades following my true passion – education.
Growing up, all I ever wanted to be was a teacher. Somewhere along the way, I took a detour into law school and spent over 10 years practicing as an attorney. While I enjoyed parts of it, there was always that little voice reminding me I was meant to be in the classroom.
Eventually, I listened.
I spent 9 years teaching in Texas public schools, where I was honored to be named Teacher of the Year and had the opportunity to lead professional development for my district. Those years shaped how I approach teaching and deepened my love for helping both students and other educators succeed.
Later, I made the difficult decision to leave the classroom, and the reason was so important – my son.
I stepped away from the traditional classroom and into a new one as I began homeschooling him. It was hard to leave the job and school I loved, but it was absolutely the right decision for my amazing kid.
That experience changed everything.
It gave me a new perspective on how students learn and reinforced something I’ve always believed – learning is not one size fits all. It pushed me to think more creatively, be more flexible, and focus on what truly helps students succeed, no matter their learning environment.
I love creating activities for the things students usually moan and groan about.
You know the ones… writing, math practice, anything that feels repetitive or frustrating.
I believe learning should be engaging, hands-on, and even a little fun. When students are interested and involved, they’re more willing to take risks, try new things, and stick with it.
That’s where real learning happens.
Teaching in Blue Jeans is where all of that comes together.
Here you’ll find:
Everything I create is designed to help you save time while still giving your students meaningful, high-quality learning experiences.
Did I actually teach in blue jeans every day? I wish. But the name means something more.
Blue jeans represent comfort, flexibility, and the freedom to try new things. When we feel comfortable, we take risks. When we take risks, we learn. And when learning feels fun and safe, students thrive.
That’s the kind of environment I’ve always worked to create in my classroom and at home.
I truly love encouraging and supporting all types of educators, whether you’re in a traditional classroom or teaching at home. You have a big job, and you don’t have to do it alone.
I’m so glad you’re here! 💙
