So I have been thinking for a while that I wanted to add the Elf on the Shelf to my kindergarten classroom.  My thought was not to start it until December so that I didn’t add an extra week of Christmas craziness to myself.  So somehow in my mind that led to waiting until the last minute to go and find an Elf on the Shelf!  So here I am Sunday afternoon, shopping in all the Christmas craziness.  Store 1 – nothing.  Store 2 – nothing.  Store 3 – “we are sold out.  Can we call another store?”  My response was “Yes – Please.  You don’t understand, I am a kindergarten teacher and I have 21 5 and 6 year olds for 8 hours a day for the next 3 weeks until Christmas.”  I don’t know if it was the stress in my voice, or the fear on my face, but a couple minutes later, a very nice clerk walks over with his hands behind his back.  Last elf – just put on the shelf a couple minutes ago and it was mine!!!  He handed me a box and gave me a sly “Good luck with those kids” as I walked away.

Now to phase 2.  Didn’t really want to read the book since it had a home focus not a school focus.  So instead we received a special delivery from the North Pole!  A beautiful package arrived with a note attached.

The note was from Santa himself letting us know that we were accepted in the elf exchange program!  Effie, our elf, would be watching our learning and our choices, then reporting in each night.

She also brought us some special pencils straight from Santa’s workshop, which we used to start writing our letters to Santa.  They were covered with green and red Christmas Spirit!

The kids were so surprised to find her “watching us” during recess too!

This morning we caught her sleeping in!!

I don’t know who is enjoying this more – all I do know is that Christmas in Kindergarten is lots of fun!!!!  Find out what else Effie is up to in our classroom on our class blog.  I am updating it daily with our Effie reports!  Click HERE to check it out.
