I thought Friday Favorites would be a fun way to share some of my favorite things without having to do it all at once!  This week I would love to share with you one of my favorite picture book characters.  Not only was I instantly smitten, but my class was too!  I am sure you have heard of him…

Pete the Cat!  If you haven’t been introduced you are probably looking at this picture thinking what is the big deal?!?  Well I was hooked just after hearing his catchy little song.  But there is so much more to Pete the Cat than just his song.  One of my favorite things from the books is the lessons we can learn from Pete.  Pete never gets angry or throws a fit when things don’t go his way – he just makes the best of it and keeps on going!

We started the year off with Pete Rocking His School Shoes.    There are some great lessons out there on using this book and Pete to tour the school.  Please go visit Inspired By Kindergarten to get her freebie for this great school tour!  Just click on the picture of Pete to find the freebie!

It was too much longer before we used Pete in our learning of colors!  I Love My White Shoes is the perfect book to teach and review colors.  We had a great time reading and re-reading this book during color week!  Here’s a couple activities to use with I Love My White Shoes.  First what would be better than watching the author himself tell the story!  Here’s a great video of Eric Litwin performing I Love My White Shoes!
And here are some follow-up activities for this awesome little book.
Here’s a freebie from Kindergarten Crayons.  This is just perfect for a retelling
center or a pocket chart center.  Great for whole group as well!  Click on picture to visit

This such a cute art project to go with the book.
Next up came another Pete favorite for our study of numbers.   Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons was just what we needed to master the number 4.  But hey, why stop there!  Here are some great counting activities to use with this book.

During the school year a few new Pete the Cat books came out and we loved them too!

I especially loved the I Can Read Books that came out because some of my kids were able to read those independently toward the end of the year.  They love grabbing a book with a familiar character!

And if all this wasn’t enough – I just found out there’s more Pete the Cat on the way!  I will be pre-ordering my books and I can’t wait to use them in my classroom.

Pete the Cat and his Magic Sunglasses.  You can pre-order through Amazon by clicking here:

But wait, there’s more!  Pete the Cat and the First Thanksgiving is due out this fall too!

And who could resist some love for Pete on Valentine’s Day!

I am sooooo excited to add these titles to my personal library and I know the kids will love them too!
